Hyderabad: Chief Justice of Telangana High Court Justice Ujjal Bhuyan said that virtual court proceedings that began during the Covid-19 pandemic were not only a reality but are here to stay as a permanent feature.
Addressing a gathering after unfurling the national flag marking the 75th Independence Day here on Monday, Justice Bhuyan said that concerned over the difficulties faced by lawyers, particularly juniors, because of disruptions during the pandemic, a corpus fund has been created for their welfare. Amounts would be disbursed to beneficiaries soon.
He pointed out that close to 2.40 lakh cases were pending in the High Court and steps are being taken to tackle the challenge on a priority basis. As part of their ongoing expansion, six more judges will be sworn in on Tuesday, he said.
He appreciated all stakeholders of lok adalats, which has helped reduce the case-load to considerable levels.
V. Raghunath, president of Telangana High Court Advocates Association said that both litigants and advocates are hopeful that cases will be disposed of more swiftly than in the earlier days as most of the vacant posts of judges have been filled.
