Osmania General Hospital carries out free transplant
The patient was stable but would be kept in observation in the intensive care unit.
Hyderabad: A pancreas and kidney transplant was performed on a 26-year-old man from Nalgonda district at Osmania General Hospital on Wednesday. R. Ganesh received a kidney and pancreas from 20-year-old Vijay Kumar who was declared brain dead following a road accident in Raichur, Karnataka.
According to the Jeevandan scheme of the government, the organs were allotted to Osmania General Hospital and Ganesh R. who was on dialysis for two years due to kidney failure was selected.
Dr Manisha Sahay, head of the nephrology department at OGH, said, “Ganesh was suffering from Type 1 diabetes and due to this he suffered from renal failure. The blood samples matched and the surgery took 12 hours.”
The patient was stable but would be kept in observation in the intensive care unit. The transplants was done free of cost by the Osmania General Hospital.
