Visakhapatnam: Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao said that people should discourage consanguineous marriages. A nutrition awareness programme, part of the ICDS project, was organised at Gara mandala, Srikakulam, with Dharmana attending as the chief guest. During the event, the minister discussed various family-related welfare schemes.

The minister emphasised, "We should discourage consanguineous marriages. It's imperative that we raise awareness in villages about the negative consequences associated with such unions. We must break this chain.”

The minister said that Anganwadi workers, after mothers, play a crucial role in nurturing an empowered generation. Families with fewer children can provide better facilities, while those with more children face greater challenges, the minister asserted.

Dharmana also pointed out that in the 75 years of independent India, numerous families in the country and state had not received any benefits from previous government administrations. It was for the betterment of such people that Jagan Mohan Reddy government took a stand. The YSRC government identified these individuals and provided them with house site pattas, benefiting 31 lakh people. The Chief Minister allocated Rs 12,500 crore for this purpose and acquired the land, Dharmana said.
