Puducherry: The Deputy Election Commissioner Umesh Sinha and Director General (EEM) Dilip Sharma visited Puducherry to take stock of poll preparedness in the Nellithoppe constituency.

They had a preliminary meeting with representatives of political parties and sought their cooperation to conduct a free and fair poll. This was followed by a meeting with Chief Electoral Officer V. Candavelou, police nodal officers and other enforcement authorities.

The officials appreciated the efforts taken by the district election department to conduct a fair poll, an official press release said.

The Deputy Election Commissioner (DEC) suggested intensifying the surveillance by installing CCTV cameras at vantage points to discourage any form of mischievous activities.

The officials directed to draft additional sector officers to strengthen the polling machinery and to strengthen the patrols.

On law and order, the DEC directed the police to erect barricades and seal the entire constituency for strict surveillance to ward off troublemakers and outsiders and to intensify vehicle checks.
