Hyderabad: Scaffolding and nets will be installed at the Chandralok complex for safety measures as restoration work begins on Friday that may take a week. The buildings will remain sealed by GHMC till repairs are over. Advertisement boards and broken parapets will be removed too.

One of the owners of the 40-year-old building said, “Temporary scaffoldings for support will be at Block A & C. Traders need not vacate the premises though there won’t be any operations while the work continues.”

Another owner added, “There are five cell towers installed that have caused water to  stagnate and seep into the concrete and corrode. The GHMC did not inspect the building earlier nor has it issued any notice for rectification.”

The city electricity department began works to install a new electric pole in front of the complex. It should be remembered that elevated portion of the building collapsed, it first fell on the electrical pole and then on a man.

The amount spent on civic maintenance of  Chandralok Complex is close to a lakh per month. Block B (commercial ) and C (Residential ) are the affected blocks in the complex.

Though the building has been inspected by JNTU civil engineering experts, the suggests for repairs have yet not been conveyed to the welfare association by GHMC.  Thus, the complex management has gone ahead by consulting private experts.   The block A of the complex does not need rectification.
