Mir Alam Tank to have cable-stayed bridge soon

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has invited tenders from technical consultancy services to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the construction of a six-lane cable-stayed bridge across Mir Alam Tank connecting Bangalore national highway to Chintelmet road. The construction of the bridge will serve multiple purposes. The structure will help in smooth flow of traffic from Chintalmet towards Bengaluru highway.  Officials said besides hassle-free journey for motorists by cutting down travel time, the bridge will also offer breath-taking views of picturesque locations along the water body.  The estimated cost of the bridge is Rs 7 crore.

The HMDA has directed the agencies to make traffic demand estimates and establish possible traffic growth rates in respect of all categories of vehicles, taking into account the past trends, annual population and real per capita growth rate and elasticity of transport demand in relation to income and estimated annual production increase. The other aspects including socio- economic development plans and the land use patterns of the region having impact on the traffic growth, the projections of vehicle manufacturing industry in the country, development plans for the other modes of transport, O-D and commodity movement behaviour should also be taken into account while working out the traffic demand estimates.

It is envisaged that the project covered under this TOR (terms of reference) would be completed and opened to traffic after three years. The traffic demand estimates should be done for a further period of 30 years from the completion of two/four lanes. The demand estimates must be done assuming three scenarios, namely, optimistic, pessimistic and most likely traffic growth. The growth factors will be worked out for five-year intervals.

Project description includes possible alternative alignments and technical/engineering alternatives. It also needs justification for the six-lane bridge. Alignment plan showing proposals for alignment along with the alignment approved at stage – I in scale after detailed topographic survey should be included in the project report.

Traffic analysis based on detailed surveys as per scope of services, environmental screening and preliminary environmental assessment, initial social assessment and preliminary land acquisition/resettlement plan, cost estimates for three different types of bridges including economic and financial analysis, and conclusions and recommendations will be taken into consideration in the report, according to officials.
