GHMC to open two more multi-faith graveyards
There are several multi-faith graveyards, which are operated privately
Hyderabad: After inaugurating a multi-religious graveyard at LB Nagar, the GHMC is set to open two more such facilities, the modernised multi-religious graveyard in Sahebnagar and a Hindu-Muslim graveyard at Padma Nagar Phase 2 in Qutbullapur.
However, authorities are skeptical about the maintenance of multi-faith graveyards, several of which are operated privately.
A senior GHMC official said that since maintenance of the multi-faith graveyards is related to religion, the corporation would not be involved unless asked to. He said that the civic body would only respond when a request comes for any facility, such as for borewell problems and clearing of undergrowth.
The Sahebnagar facility is spread over 13.64 acres. Estimated to cost Rs 45.8 crore, it will have three entrances. The civic body has also built a gas and oil-fired crematorium at an additional cost of Rs 90 lakh on 151-sq. metres in this facility.
The facility at Padmanagar Phase 2 is spread over two acres and built at an estimated cost of Rs 1.5 crore with two entrances. Both the facilities are equipped with several amenities, including an admin block, security room, compound wall, burning platforms, ash storage facilities, prayer hall, parking facility, pathways, wash areas, electrification, plantation and landscaping.
GHMC has been on the job of developing existing graveyards/burial grounds into model graveyards at various localities in three phases.
