Civic bodies pass the buck on biodiversity park\'s upkeep
Several plants in the park on the premises were removed in the past one month, raising suspicions that the park will be dismantled
Hyderabad: Even as plants are being removed from Biodiversity Park in Gachibowli, the civic agencies are passing the buck, with each of them saying the park does not come under their jurisdiction.
According to sources, several plants in the park and a board on the premises were removed in the past one month, raising suspicions that the park will be dismantled. While a GHMC official said the jurisdiction of the park comes under the Forest Department, the latter in turn said the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) was responsible for maintenance of the park.
However, HMDA too denied having any role in the upkeep of the park. The park may come under the Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC), as it has been set up in the corporation’s layout. But the zonal commissioner for Cyberabad did not respond to queries regarding the park.
Sources say while GHMC officials had tried to engage local communities for maintenance of the park, it had not worked and the park had been neglected. The 13 acre park was set up in 2015 and used to have over 200 species of plants.
