CET seat matrix row to be resolved soon: Karnataka minister
Medical education department officials held discussions on the various demands put forward by the medical and dental colleges.
Bengaluru: The State government continued its efforts to ensure 40 per cent seats in private medical and dental colleges. On Thursday, the medical education department and higher education department officials held discussions on the various demands put forward by the medical and dental colleges.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil, medical education minister, made it clear that all the issues surrounding the seat matrix controversy will be resolved. "Students will get good news within two or three days," he affirmed.
Terms and conditions: According to sources, private colleges are expected to surrender 40% of their intake with a few riders. "One of the conditions is a slight increase in the fee structure," informed an officer who is following the developments.
Difference of opinion: According to sources, only a couple of college managements are against surrendering 40% of their seats to the government quota students.
"One or two colleges cannot represent all the colleges. Majority of colleges are ready to share their seats with the government CET students. But they want a revision in the fee structure proposed in the consensual agreement," he said.
The representative of a private medical college from the city told this newspaper that the consensual agreement will end with this year's admission process. "We want cost per student as the fee structure from the next academic year," he said.
Seat matrix ready: Meanwhile, the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) is waiting for the medical seat matrix of the 18 government-run medical colleges. According to sources, all these colleges have already received necessary approvals for the admissions.
"This year, with the launch of three new medical colleges, the total number of government medical colleges has reached 18. Because of this, meritorious students will not face any problems," assured an officer.
Option entry from Friday: CET-2016 Option Entry process will begin on Friday after 10 pm for admission to professional courses. According to the KEA officials, candidates who have entered their options for trial/practice session will be erased.
Candidates have to enter the options afresh to become eligible for allotment of seats. Candidates who have verified their documents up to June 16 will have to enter their priority of options by using their secret keys and by selecting the link “UGCET-2016 Option Entry” on the KEA Website http://kea.kar.nic.in to become eligible for allotment of seats.
