BSF jawans gear up against dengue in Thrissur

Thrissur: BSF jawans from Kainoor Camp in Thrissur took part in the cleaning operations at Marathakkara here which was conducted as a preventive measure against dengue fever. 27 persons in Marathakkara have been diagnosed with dengue fever and more than 160 are suffering from viral fever. A total of 40 jawans from the BSF camp are part of the cleanliness drive which began in Marathakkara on Thursday.

The jawans were allotted an unused park in the locality, which was the breeding ground of mosquitoes. The jawans cleared the park which was overgrown with weeds and creepers. BSF officials said that they would conduct such cleaning operations in other places near their camp. Health officials who accompanied the jawans and NCC cadets during the drive took awareness classes for the local people.

The locals were asked not to store water for household use in drums and buckets for more than seven days as the Aedes mosquito that spreads dengue breeds there.The public were also asked to fully cover the tanks and drums used to store water at houses. Ollur MLA K Rajan led the cleanliness drive.
