Foxconn delegation meets CM, plans supplementary plant

Bengaluru: The delegates of Foxconn Industrial Internet, a subsidiary of i-phone maker, led by Foxconn Chief Executive Officer Brand Cheng held discussion with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Bengaluru on Monday over setting-up of Foxconn supplementary plant in about 100-acre of land.  The meeting was held at Vidhana Soudha.

As per the proposal, Foxconn Industrial Internet plans to invest about Rs 8,800 crore which would help to generate 14,000 jobs. Foxconn will engage in manufacturing screens and outer coverings apart from making mechanical components needed for phones. This plant would serve as a supplementary unit to the end assembly unit at Devanahalli near Bengaluru.

Minister for Heavy and Medium Industries M.B. Patil assured fullest cooperation for the proposed plant of Foxconn and also to consider other project proposals of the company such as setting up of a semiconductor manufacturing unit in the state.

At the meeting, Minister for Information Technology and Biotechnology Priyank Kharge, Chief Secretary Vandita Sharma and others were present.
The delegation would be shown to Japan Industrial Township in Tumakuru, about 70-km from Bengaluru city, for examination of the land required for setting up of the supplementary plant.
