NCP leader Jayakumar A held in cheating case
The accused was running a financial institution at Palarivattom
Kochi: The Kochi city police on Tuesday arrested the state secretary of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) for allegedly swindling Rs 16 lakh from a woman hailing from Edappally. Jayakumar A (52), a resident of Udhyogamandal near Eloor, was arrested after the Edapally native approached the city police commissioner with a complaint that the accused borrowed Rs 16 lakh from her on the pretext of starting a jewellery shop a couple of years back but refused to repay the money.
“A case was registered in Palarivattom Police station. During investigation, it was revealed he had several properties in key city areas like Elamakkara, Veekshanam Road and Eloor Vadakkum Bhagam and also owns luxury vehicles,” an official said. Meanwhile, the probe revealed Jayakumar has pending cases at Trikkarakka police station and also faces legal action for allegedly cheating several victims of Rs 1.30 crore.
“The accused was running a financial institution at Palarivattom -- ‘Vishnu Finance’, having branches at Palarivattom, Paravoor, Elamakkara, Muppathadam, Kadungalloor and Ponekkara,” police said. City police commissioner M P Dinesh said the police will investigate into other financial misappropriation charges against him.
