Farmer leader Veeresh Sobaradmath to embrace sanyas

It is the first time in the state that a farmer leader is accepting Sanyas Dheeksha for the cause of farmers, he added.

Hubballi: A farmer leader is embracing sainthood (Sanyas Dheeksha) by renouncing the world for the welfare of farmers and to take the Mahadayi agitation to its logical end.

Disclosing this to mediapersons in Dharwad, Raitha Sene general secretary Shankar Ambali said that farmer leader Veeresh Sobaradmath has been spearheading the Mahadayi agitation for the last 448 days and has now decided to embrace sainthood for the cause of farmers. It is the first time in the state that a farmer leader is accepting Sanyas Dheeksha for the cause of farmers, he added.

Stating that the Mahadayi agitation launched by Raitha Sene in Nargund would be completing 450 days on October 17, he said that Sobaradmath will embrace Sanyas during a mega farmers’ convention to be held on that day in Nargund. Several heads of religious institutions will attend the programme.

A massive stage has been set up at Nargund town where more than 5,000 farmers would be converging to discuss the future course of action to be taken up to expedite Mahadayi river-linking project.

Farmers, pro-Kannada organisations, leaders from Malaprabha Command area comprising of Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag and Bagalkot will be participating in the convention.
