Police resorts to lathicharge in Wayanad

UDF workers had started blocking the road from morning at various parts of the district.

KALPETTA: Police resorted to lathi charge at Sulthan Bathery to disperse the UDF workers who blocked vehicles at the town in connection with the ‘hartal’ and also pushed aside UDF workers at Kalpetta while trying to block the road. UDF workers had started blocking the road from morning at various parts of the district.

“In majority spots our workers released the vehicles after few minutes,” said DCC president IC Balakrishnan MLA. “In Sulthan Bathery police had tried to create an issue by provoking our workers”, he said.  Two workers were injured in the lathi-charge, he said. Apart from stray incidents of violence, hartal remained peaceful.
