CEO asks non-natives to leave constituencies

Chennai: Politicians, party workers and outsiders who are not voters of the three constituencies that are to undergo polling on November 19, should leave the constituencies on Thursday, CEO Rajesh Lakhoni said.

Releasing a set of norms that had to be adhered by the political parties and the election machinery, the CEO also warned that no one shall display to the public any election matter by means of the cinematograph, television, FM radios, WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, SMS and or through the internet.

No one shall convene, hold or attend any public meeting or procession in connection with an election. Any violation of this is punishable by imprisonment for 2 years or fine or both, with reference to Section 126 (2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the CEO said.

Kalyanamandapam, community hall, lodges, the guest house would be checked to find out whether the outsiders have been accommodated in these premises and necessary action will be taken in case of violation.

The vehicle permit given to candidates, including star campaigners would cease to be valid after Thursday evening. On the date of the poll, each contesting candidate is entitled to get a separate permit from the returning officer to use one vehicle for own use within the constituency.

Meanwhile, a press release from the public election department said that on the day of polling only the public whose name features in the voters roll will be allowed to vote.

The release also added that the results of an opinion poll, the conduct of opinion poll would be prohibited from 48 hours, i.e. From 5.00 P.M. On 17.11.2016 at 5.00 P.M. on 19.11.2016. The exit poll has already been banned from 7.00 A.M. and 5.30 P.M. on 19.11.2016, the release added.
