Without conducting a physical inspection, revenue officials registered survey numbers 814,816 in the names of private individuals, who mortgaged it to a private bank and borrowed approximately Rs 13 crore to build a warehouse in the lake.

HYDERABAD: Taking cognisance of a report titled ‘Land in Hyderabad lake mortgaged for Rs 13 crore, published in Deccan Chronicle on November 15, the state government ordered a probe into alleged irregularities concerning Nadem Cheruvu.

The 52 acres on which the lake is spread, in Ghatkesar, were mortgaged after a no objection certificate was issued by the mandal revenue officers and individual parties also obtained a Rs 13-crore loan to build a warehouse, despite the HMDA not granting permission for construction.

It was found that neither the bank nor the MROs had conducted a physical inspection, or checked whether permission was issued by the HMDA for the construction.

On Thursday, the state government directed officials concerned to submit an explanation within a week and issued notices to nodal agencies involved in the alleged irregularity.
