Thrissur: Demonetisation has not adversely affected Kochi Metro works, principal advisor to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation E. Sreedharan has said. Metro works from Aluva to Palarivattam in phase one would be completed in March next and the 18 km stretch from Aluva to Maharaja's College would be finished in June, he told reporters after distributing scholarships instituted by South Indian Bank to students from economically backward families who had passed plus two with high marks.

Reiterating his earlier support to the demonetisation policy of the union government he said that it was a bold step and would boost the economic growth of the country to a great extent despite initial odds. He said a large number of people would now be opting for digital money and it would reduce the generation of 'black money' to a great extent enabling the healthy growth of the economy. Mr Sreedharan distributed scholarships to 42 students (three each from a district) that offer each student '4,000 a month during their under graduate study.
