Vijayawada: APSRTC has earned an additional revenue of ₹7.90 crore by operating special services during the period before Sankranti festival even though it did not charge any extra fare. Last year, during the same period, it earned ₹7.17 crore, though it collected fare 50 percent extra fare than normal.

Given the huge patronage from passengers of AP and Telangana. APSRTC operated a record number of 3,392 special buses from January 6 to January 14 against its earlier plans to operate only 3,120 special buses. People preferred to take RTC buses in view of availability of adequate buses at normal fare.

A good number of passengers got attracted by APSRTC’s offer of 10 percent concession on return journey fare.

Last year, RTC operated only 2,400 special buses during the pre-Sankranti period. This year, it operated 1,483 special buses from Hyderabad alone, compared to 824 buses operated last year to various places in AP.

APSRTC authorities have thanked all passengers for patronising their services during pre-Sankranti. They requested passengers to take RTC buses for their return journey too, as they will be operating adequate number of buses from all places across the state.

The total revenue earned by APSRTC during the period has been ₹141 crore compared to last year’s ₹107 crore.
