Malls selling fake handlooms, alleges BC body
Warangal: BC Rajyadhikara Samithi accused shopping malls in Telugu states of selling clothes made on powerlooms as handlooms during Sankranti festivities, thereby cheating people.
In a statement released in Hanamkonda on Tuesday, samithi convenor Dasu Suresh asserted that he had checked out a shopping mall where copied versions of Pochampally Ikat sarees were being sold sarees made on handlooms. He said because of such mafia, weavers are having to face are facing a lot of hardships
“This is one of the reasons why weaves are taking the extreme step of ending their lives,” Suresh pointed out.
He said the state government appears to be least bothered as it is laying down a red carpet for starting of corporate shopping malls in the state.
