HYDERABAD: The unseasonal rains of Thursday and Friday adversely affected Secunderabad, with hours-long power cuts forcing residents to switch on generators and others to hope the supply would be restored before their UPS systems died out.

Waterlogging in certain areas in Rasoolpura, Marredpally, AOC and RK Puram caused great trouble to motorists. Thanks to the several road closures, motorists had no escape.

The power outage took with it streetlights in Seetharampuram and made things difficult for people returning home from work in the dark. The electricity department ignored repeated calls, said Aditya Bangaru, a resident.

Hemanth Kumar said that unfinished works caused a major scare. There were no cautionary boards at the worksite, and residents put huge stones to warn people.

Residents also feared that the mosquito menace would only get worse. "The stagnant water for the next three days will make life worse for the next two weeks at least unless mosquito breeding is checked," said Satti Narayana, a resident of Bowenpally.

Another resident added that monkeys and insects make their way because of the wet weather. Residents hoped that the SCB could devote its attention to civic affairs, now that the poll was called off.
