Chennai: Senior journalist C.P. Pradeep Kumar, working for an evening newspaper, died after he tripped into the Adyar river here while crossing the causeway near Kasi theatre in Jafferkhanpet on Monday night, police said.

Pradeep Kumar, (58), was heading the sports desk of News Today. He had earlier worked in other newspapers in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and New Delhi. Police, quoting eyewitnesses, said Pradeep was possibly walking to his room in a mansion in Ekkattuthangal when he tripped and fell into the river on Monday night.  Though some people and police tried to locate him immediately, they could not trace him.

His body was found floating on Tuesday evening and was handed over to the family on Wednesday by police after autopsy. His wife Smitha, a senior bureaucrat with the Puducherry government, took his’s body to native place in Kollam, Kerala. The couple has a daughter and a son.
