Kerala: Health Ministry okays 200 more MBBS seats
Nod to the state government's proposal to start MBBS course in the current academic year at Government Medical College, Parippally.
Thriuvananthapuram: The union health ministry has sanctioned 200 more medical seats in the state colleges from the next academic year. Sree Gokulam Medical College and Research Foundation has been given recognition for MBBS course with an increased intake of 150 students from the earlier 50. The Medical Council of India has given the nod to the state government’s proposal to start MBBS course in the current academic year at Government Medical College, Parippally, Kollam.
It was given permission to admit 100 students. The college, which was known as ESI Corporation Medical College, was later taken over by the government. This is apart from the 1,200 seats now sanctioned in eight government medical colleges, 100 seats in one government- controlled self-financing medical college and 2,350 seats in 19 self-financing medical colleges.
The admissions would be made by the Commissioner for Entrance examinations (CEE) from a state-level rank list prepared on the basis of NEET rank list. The date for declaring the results have not been announced yet. The results, which were earlier scheduled to be declared on June 8, were delayed after the Madras High Court stayed the declaration on a plea citing lack of uniformity in the question paper. The Supreme Court had directed other high courts not to accept any petition on the NEET 2017. The deadline fixed for MBBS admissions by the Medical Council of India is September 30.
