Chennai: Chennai district collector A. Shanmugasundaram on Monday released the list of 331 schools functioning without the mandatory recognition from the
government and appealed to the parents not to admit their children to those schools.

The collector warned of taking appropriate legal action on those schools. Recently, students from a private school here which claimed affiliation to the CBSE, could not take up their annual board examinations. Officials came to know that the school did not obtain any recognition from the government. Hence in order to avoid such a situation, the state school education department in April formed district level committees to inspect schools and update recognition process.

During the exercise, the committee in Chennai found that 331 schools did not meet the eligibility criteria and advised those schools to be closed from the beginning of the academic year so that the students and their parents do not undergo any suffering.
