Covid fear grips Nanjangud after BMTC driver from Bengaluru tests positive for virus
The driver\'s 20 primary contacts and 7 secondary contacts at the hostel are being identified
Mysuru: After cluster episode related to Jubilant pharma company and Uttar Pradesh's Madrasa returnee's case fear gripped people of Nanjangud further, after a BMTC driver who had come from Bengaluru to Nanjangud tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday.
25-year-old P7553 had come to visit his wife who functioned as staff nurse at Kittur Rani Chennamma residential school hostel at Hura in Nanjangud taluk which has a quarantine facility.
Now the BMTC driver's 20 primary contacts and 7 secondary contacts including his wife, 3 year old, father in law and mother in law, 7 teachers, cook and security guard of hostel have been identified. And also the quarters attached to hostel where staff nurse stayed and the street where staff nurse's house is situated at Ramaswamy layout in Nanjangud have been sealed off.
The BMTC driver had come to Nanjangud from Bengaluru on the evening of last Thursday. On Sunday, he developed fever and other symptoms. On Monday his sample was taken for testing. And he tested positive on Wednesday, sources said.
At the Kittoor Rani hostel where his wife served as staff nurse, employees and families of jubilant employees were quarantined earlier. But none of them have tested positive. Perhaps the BMTC driver got infected in Bengaluru, sources said.
P7553 is being treated at a designated hospital in Mysuru.
After 22 year old Arabic student who had returned from a Madrasa in UP, his mother, two brothers have tested positive for covid 19 samples of as many as 193 people in the containment zone identified around his house have been drawn for testing in Nanjangud.
Nanjangud was worst hit with 59 cases due to cluster case of Jubilant pharma company and there were 28 containment zones with 14 in Nanjangud town and 14 in Nanjangud rural villages. All the patients have recoevered and all the containment zones were lifted last month.
As of now, Mysuru has reported a total of 121 Corona positive cases and only 15 cases are active.
