After wavering through lot of dates, the Karnataka government finally conducted the II PU exam on Thursday. Over 5.95 lakh students appeared for English paper on Thursday.

At SSMRV PU college 1,100 students wrote the exam. The students who came from containment zones were made to sit in separate room and those with symptoms of fever, cold and cough were allotted a different room.

The students were asked to report to the examination centre hall an hour before the exam begun. Students who have been tested positive for COVID-19 or are primary contacts of positive patients were not allowed to take up the exam, but can appear for the supplementary examination as fresh candidates.

The announcement for the supplementary exams will be made after the declaration of the PU results.

"Over 1,100 students are taking up the exam. As of now we don't have any student coming from a containment zone but their temperatures are being taken at the entry gate. We have adequate number of masks and sanitisers for the students. All the teaching staff were called for the invigilation. The seating arrangement and the entire set up was done in five days," principal of the SSMRV PU college, Vasanthalakshmi told the Deccan Chronicle.

There was a sea of students accompanied by their parents at the centre. At Christ University, Mallikarjuna was anxiously waiting for his ward to come out of the examination hall.

"It's good that the exams are being conducted. We have to plan for the admission in a degree college as well. The children became a bit lazy in the long gap. It's only in the last month they started revising. I hope they will do well and I am happy that they will be free from today," he stated.

The private colleges in the city are meeting the parents on webinar to explain about their colleges.

Mallikarjuna's son has taken up entrance exams for a few colleges and he hopes of shortlisting an appropriate college for him. Mallikarjuna..asst general manager, ballari.

The examination, which was postponed on account of COVID-19, is being held across 1,016 centres across the state.
