Smriti Irani celebrates Raksha Bandhan with jawans at Siachen

The textile minister visited the jawans posted at the highest battleground in the world.

Siachen (Jammu and Kashmir): Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani on Thursday celebrated Raksha Bandhan with Army jawans deployed at the Siachen Base Camp Glacier, the highest battleground in the world.

“It is a great honour for me to celebrate this festival here with my brothers who guard the borders. Prime Minister Modi has always celebrated festivals with the jawans,” Irani said.

Meanwhile, General S K Patiyal said that it was a great honour for them to celebrate this auspicious festival with the Union Minister. “It’s an honour for all of us. It boosts up our morale. I thank ma’am that she has come from such a long distance to tie rakhi,” General Patiyal said.

Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman will also be tying rakhi to the jawans at Lumla in Tawang region later in the day.

Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Wednesday tied rakhi to the BSF personnel deployed at the international border in Attari near Amritsar.

Girls from colleges and schools also tied rakhis to BSF troops at the Attari Border.
