HYDERABAD: Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav on Friday reviewed arrangements at the steel bridge from Indira Park to VST, which will be inaugurated by MA&UD minister K.T. Rama Rao Saturday morning.

The government will name the 2.81-km-long steel flyover, the first of its kind in the city, after Naini Narsimha Reddy, the state’s first home minister, who had represented Musheerabad constituency in which jurisdiction the flyover falls, and who had led VST workers union for decades.

Meanwhile, soon after GHMC released a video of the bridge, it went viral across social media platforms. Besides easing traffic flow on the busy stretches at Indira Park and Ashoknagar crossroads, the flyover’s inauguration will bring relief to commercial establishments, who have been bearing the brunt ever since the construction works had started before the Covid-19 lockdown.

The flyover facilitates free flow of traffic from Indira Park to Vidyanagar avoiding at least four junctions on the route.

According to GHMC officials, around 12,500 MT of special alloy steel and up to 20,000 cubic metres of concrete have gone into the making of flyover, which stands over 81 steel piers of which 46 are pile foundations. Altogether 426 steel girders support a four-lane deck slab of 16.6 width. At RTC crossroads, the flyover runs above the Metro Rail line at a height of 26.54 metres.

The flyover has been built at a cost of Rs 450 crore under Strategic Road Development Project (SRDP).
