Squad combs for Maoists in Nilambur
A police team had reached the colony on Friday night itself after tip off from their sources but the Maoists managed to escape.
MALAPPURAM: A joint team of Police Anti Naxal Squad and forest officials held a combing operation in Nilambur forest on Saturday after reports of Maoists visiting Uchakkulam tribal colony on Friday night. According to the residents of the colony, the armed Maoists took a class blaming the government on its failure to ensure maximum punishment for Govindachami, the convict in the Soumya murder case. The seven-member group including two armed women also collected rice, sugar and tea from the tribal residents.
A police team had reached the colony on Friday night itself after tip off from their sources but the Maoists managed to escape. “The colony is one of the least affected by the maoist menace in the area. So they managed to escape before the police reached the colony. The presence of Maoists in Uchakulam colony was last reported in 2014,” said M.P. Mohanacha-ndran Nair, DySP of Perinthalmanna who led the police team.
