HYDERABAD: The managing committee of Jubilee Hills Cooperative House Building Society removed A. Murali Mukund as its secretary through a no-confidence motion here on Friday.

Of the 15 managing committee members, who attended the meeting convened by the Registrar of Cooperative Societies (RCS) M. Veerabrahmaiah, 12 voted against the secretary while three, including Mukund, made a futile attempt to prevent the ouster.

The shifting of balance of power between the two warring factions has eventually come to an end. The newly-elected managing committee and the previous one headed by NTV Telugu news channel founder T. Narendra Chowdary were engaged in a bitter fight for one-upmanship.

Official sources told this newspaper that the powers that be in the government decided to ascertain the majority opinion in the managing committee and leave it to the committee to run its affairs without intervention from outside.

This is in sharp contrast to a ruling party Rajya Sabha MP close to the Chief Minister’s camp going all out against the new committee till a few days ago, sources added.

The society affairs turned curious ever since the new managing committee took over and started moves against the alleged corrupt practices by the earlier body. The new committee even lodged a police complaint against Chowdary and others with regard to ‘fraudulent’ sale of a prime plot.

Meanwhile, the secretary switched over to the Chowdary camp and even recommended imposing a special officer rule. He obtained a temporary relief from Telangana High Court when president B. Ravindranath issued orders clipping powers of the secretary.

A division bench of the High Court, however, set aside the interim orders paving way for moving no-confidence motion against the secretary.

When contacted, Mukund pointed out that he had written to the RCS against conducting a meeting to take up the no-confidence motion. “The HC gave three days time to me to explore remedies against the no-confidence motion but the RCS went ahead with the meeting,” he alleged.
