Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Telugu to come up near Nellore
Nellore: Agriculture minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy hailed Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for allotting 5.5 acres precious and high value land abutting the NH-16 for the Centre of Excellence in Studies in Classical Telugu at Venkatachalam near Nellore for constructing the permanent buildings. He said the move clearly indicates the CM's fondness for Telugu language.
The minister handed over the documents of the land to the director of the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL) Dr Shailendra Mohan during a function at the site on Saturday.
Referring to the efforts of former chief minister late Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy to secure classical language status to Telugu, Govardhan Reddy said YSR’s son provided land for its permanent buildings.
He recalled the significant efforts of former Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu to shift the institution from Mysore to Nellore.
He said the Centre is useful for research on classical language and delivering its contributions to future generations.
In a statement, Venkaiah Naidu has also appreciated the AP government for handing over the land and others who were instrumental in the sanctioning of the land.
Reminding that the language denotes our roots and culture, he said the construction of a building for the Centre is going to be another turning point while hoping that the education wing of the Union government would start the construction soon.
Centre’s director Dr Muniratnam Naidu, professors C.V. Sivarama Krishna, Pankaj Dwivedi, PO of SSA Usha Rani, Nellore RDO Malola, MPDO Sushmita, Tahsildar Nagaraju and others were present.
