Tirupati municipal council resolves to merge Settipalli panchayat into MCT
Tirupati: The Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) Council has resolved to merge Settipalli panchayat with the MCT and sanction adequate funds for creation of basic amenities for the panchayat.
The MCT Council met here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Mayor Sireesha. The Council passed several resolutions including one for release of ₹37.61 crore for the construction of new master plan-linked roads.
Council special invitee and MLA Karunakar Reddy said the locals faced a lot of problems. Those living on the Karakambadi stretch were taking 40 minutes to reach the bus terminal. However, with the completion of the master plan road adjacent to the Guest Line Days hotel, the travel time to the bus station has been brought down to 5 minutes, he said.
MLA Karunakar Reddy proposed a big celebration to mark Tirupati's formation day on Feb 24. The municipal council also decided to complete the construction of all the master plan roads by the end of March. It also passed resolutions to build “free lefts” on Court Road and Music College at a cost of ₹73 lakh.
Another decision was to level the M. Kottapalli housing layout, in which pucca house beneficiaries were assigned pattas at a cost of ₹95 lakh.
The municipal council also adopted a resolution to lease out MCT’s commercial shops, whose leases had expired, at higher rents.
The mayor thanked Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for his assistance in completing the merger of Settipalli Panchayat with MCT. Municipal commissioner Anupama Anjali, deputy mayors Abhinay Reddy and Mudra Narayana, as well as other council members were present.
