Hyderabad applauds cop's good deed
He fixed damaged wheelchair of a poor man.
Hyderabad: A police constable K. Dhanraj from Market police station helped repair the wheelchair of a poor old man. His wheelchair was hit by a vehicle and was badly damaged. Pictures of Dhanraj with the poor man sitting on the wheelchair was doing the rounds on the internet on Sunday. Many city residents appreciated the kind act of the policeman. City residents even commented that they were speechless after reading about the friendly gesture of the Telangana police and that they felt proud of the friendly, kind police. Citizens also demanded that they needed more policemen like Dhanraj and wished he would be awarded. They demanded punishment for the person who actually hit the wheelchair of the old man.
“On Friday evening, along with two other policemen, I had gone for patrolling near 31 bus-stop at Secunderabad railway station when we saw that a 60-year-old man’s wheelchair was badly hit by a vehicle. We called a mechanic from Bata signal and got the wheelchair repaired immediately,” said 36-year-old Dhanraj. “The old man was happy as his wheelchair was repaired, we also bought food for him. I did not do anything for a reward. Whenever someone needs help, I try to help them out,” he said. “I donate blood every three months and feed poor patients at Gandhi Hospital once a while,” Dhanraj added.
“I salute the cop for his friendly policing. Earlier, before Telangana state formation, one would run away seeing a cop but today it is diagonally opposite. Cops are friendly to the society,” Venkateshwar Rao from the city tweeted. “God bless you Mr Dhanraj. I am speechless after reading police stories and feel so swelled with pride that my state has angels disguised as police. Bravo,” Rafia Sultana from Hyderabad tweeted.
“We are really proud of Dhanraj and we will reward him because it’s really important to motivate other policemen to do friendly policing. We are also doing community felt need programmes in our area limits, by talking to all the residents about the problems they face in their community, to ensure that they don’t face problems like thefts, openly drinking, eve-teasing,” SHO M. Mattaiah of Market police station said.
