HYDERABAD: The Telangana State Federation of Textile Associations, Secunderabad, thanked Prime Minister Narender Modi for setting up a mega textile park in the state, which helps traders procure their requirements locally based on the market demand and the latest designs.

Earlier, traders procured 90 per cent of their stocks from Bombay, Surat, Kolkata and Banaras, for which they had to pay transport charges as well. “By stocking these quantities for a long period, the designs were becoming outdated, resulting in losses to traders,” said Prakash Ammanabolu, the president of the Telangana State Federation of Textile Associations.

Ammanabolu also thanked minister K.T. Rama Rao, while saying that the state is one of the best cotton producers in the country due to well-equipped spinning mills and skilled labour.

“By setting up a textile park in Telangana, the production will be increased and employment will be generated substantially. The additional revenue will also benefit the government,” he said.

The federation also called on the government to focus on technical textiles, citing its increased potential in areas of Meditech, Mobiletech, Packtech, Protech, Sportech, Buildtech, Clothtech, Geotech, Homtech, Okotech and Agrotech.

“Presently, the needs of the above fields are being met by imports from other countries. If the governments can fulfil the requirements of the above, it will go a long way in generating employment and revenue for the state and Central governments. Unlike the conventional textile industry in India, which is highly export-intensive, the technical textile industry is still import dependent,” he said.
