Not all are happy with Rajinikanth's role
Coordinator of farmers' assn Pandian resents Ayyakannu meeting with superstar.
Thanjavur: The coordinator of the ‘Thamizhaga Anaithu Vivasaya Sangangalin Orunginaippu Kuzhu’ Thiru. P.R.Pandian on Sunday appealed to Thiru Ayyakannu, president of ‘Thenninthiya Nathigal Inaippu Vivasaya Sangam’ not to sidetrack the Cauvery issue and fight for the rights of Tamil Nadu farmers on Cauvery water.
Reacting to a meeting of Ayyakannu with film actor Rajnikanth, Thiru. Pandian said that people of Tamil Nadu are running from pillar to post to get drinking water this year with severe drought wreaking havoc.
However, Karnataka was not releasing even the 2,000 cusecs of water ordered by Supreme court, he said. At the same time Karnataka was keen on constructing dams at Mekedatu and Raasimanal across Cauvery to store more water for it. "In this situation what is the point in talking about linking rivers?" he asked and said Rajnikanth did not raise his voice when there was violence in Karnataka and Tamils and their property were attacked over the Cauvery issue last year. (2016)."It is an insult to Tamils that Ayyakannu has sought the help of Rajnikanth for linking rivers. Ayyakannu should not sidetrack the issue, but fight for the rights of Tamil Nadu farmers on the Cauvery issue united with other farmers organisations," Pandian pleaded in a press release issued here on Sunday.
