Hyderabad: Over 100 businesses operating out of the Swapnalok and Suryakiran commercial complexes in Secunderabad are suffering due to the lack of power supply, which is yet to resume after the buildings were reopened in April after the devastating fire in March.

Power supply to the buildings was cut following a fire in the Swapnalok Complex, in which six people died. The two buildings were sealed then, but allowed to reopen a month later.

At present, garment merchants mostly occupy the ground floor of the two buildings, while other businesses operate from the floors above.

They said that despite moving the electricity department to restore the power supply, there has been no response.

Dr Dilip Kumar Taunk, a surgeon operating from the second floor of the Suryakiran Complex, told Deccan Chronicle that many of his patients are elderly people, who are finding it difficult to visit him for consultation.

“As there is no power supply and the lifts are not working, they are forced to walk up the stairs. I advise them to take a video consultation, but they prefer to meet in person and speak to me,” he said.

Many of them operating from the top floors have also vacated the premises.

While the officer-bearers of the building associations did not comment on the issue, TS Southern Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TSSPDCL) officials said that they have already notified the owners to get rectifications done and submit a fire NoC for the same.

“Once these are complied with, supply can be restored,” an official said.
