IHRD colleges clear Mahatma Gandhi University CAP
MG University included the seven IHRD arts and science colleges in the special allotment process on Monday.
KOCHI: The logjam over the Centralised Allotment Process (CAP) to degree courses in seven IHRD arts and science colleges under MG University was resolved on Monday with the university including these colleges in the special allotment process beginning on Tuesday after giving them seven days’ time to clear the fee dues.
The university received frantic calls from principals of affected colleges on Monday following the DC report in this regard. The varsity officials acted following the intervention of Registrar M.R. Unni and Vice-Chancellor Dr Babu Sebastian. According to varsity officials, three IHRD colleges cleared the dues on the day itself.
IHRD director Dr P. Suresh Kumar contacted the principals to know what went wrong leading to the exclusion of IHRD colleges from CAP. Mr Suresh Kumar later told DC that the college authorities were misled by the university on remittance of dues.
“I had submitted a memorandum to the MGU Vice-Chancellor requesting him to give exemption to the IHRD colleges from paying the college and course affiliation fee dues since the colleges are government supported, on which he had not taken any decision. When the officials of the colleges went to the university to remit the fees, the university section officials told them that they need to pay only Rs 10,000 which is the college affiliation fee for the current year and the dues since 2013-14 need to be paid only if the VC did not allow the memorandum of the IHRD director. That’s why they didn’t pay the dues,” said Mr Suresh Kumar.
However, MGU officials said that this was not true and there was no such direction from the university. The Vice-Chancellor told DC that a sum of Rs 1.92 lakh was pending as dues. “A decision on the request of the IHRD director for waiving the same has to be taken by the finance standing committee of the varsity syndicate,” he added.
