Bizarre: MP: Congress MLA Offers to Ride Donkey For Rain

Bhopal: Congress MLA from Sheopur in Madhya Pradesh Babu Jandel has offered to ride a donkey to a bank of the river in his assembly constituency to perform rituals to ‘appease the rain god’ to end the ongoing dry spell in the area.

In a video message to people of his constituency, Mr Jandel said that the idea hit upon him after watching a video showing a village head in Indore district in Madhya Pradesh riding a donkey to the local cremation ground and performing some rituals to appease the rain god.

The rituals performed by the village head after a donkey ride to the cremation ground had yielded results, leading his area to receive rainfalls then, he said.

“Since as the MLA, I am the ‘Mukhia’ (chief) of the assembly constituency, I am ready to ride a donkey to the Sita river to perform the necessary rituals there to appease the rain god to bring rains to our area and end the ongoing dry spell”, he was heard saying in the video which has gone viral on social media.

Mr Jandel was heard in the video clip appealing to the people in his constituency to join him in his ‘donkey ride journey’.

“If the people give their consent, I am ready to ride a donkey”, he was heard saying in the video.

Sheopur district has witnessed scanty rainfall since August six, 2023 as compared to other districts in Madhya Pradesh.
