Film tourism will boost J&K's economy, create new jobs: L-G Manoj Sinha

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, on Friday asserted that the growth of film tourism will further boost the economy of the scenic Himalayan region by providing jobs and offering new growth opportunities for businesses.

“Film tourism will be a major driver of growth and job creation for J&K,” Mr. Sinha said after kick-starting the outdoor shooting of upcoming TV serial 'Pashmina' here. He added “The golden era of film shooting is returning to the Kashmir Valley. My administration had two years ago launched the new film policy, after consultation with all stakeholders, and now J&K has emerged as a favourite shooting destination for filmmakers”.

A spokesman of the Alchemy Films Private Limited said that the local talent is also the part of its venture 'Pashmina' which will be filmed extensively at different locations of the Union Territory over next five months. Siddharth Malhotra and Sapna Malhotra, creators and producers of Alchemy Films, cast and crew members of the show were present on the occasion.

The Lt. Governor while talking to reporters said that over 300 movies and TV serials have been shot in Kashmir after the launch of new film policy in 2021 and that the era of 1980 when Hollywood and Bollywood films would be shot in the Valley is returning. He reiterated, “The revival of film tourism will help J&K’s economy grow and provide youth livelihood opportunities.”
