Rain fury: Rs 3 crore loss in Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram: The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) officials on Monday estimated that damages worth around Rs 3 crore was caused by the rains that lashed previous day. Around 10 houses were destroyed completely and around 21 were partially destroyed during the rain on previous day. The crop loss was estimated to have occurred on a total of 61 hectares of land mostly at Nedumangaud and Vellarada areas.

Though a public holiday was declared in the Thiruvananthapuram on Monday, no considerable precipitation was recorded in capital unlike in Northern districts until evening. The infrared imaging of clouds by IMD in the early morning itself had confirmed that there could be respite in showers later in the day.  With this, the alerts in the state have been scaled down to Level 1. However, the watch on hilly roads continued.
