Kalamandalam Deemed University fellowships, endowments announced
The awards will be given on November 9, the anniversary of the university by minister A.K. Balan
Thrissur: The Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed University in Cheruthuruthy here announced fellowships, awards and endowments for 2015 on Tuesday. A committee including the vice-chancellor, other officials and veteran performers selected the artists for the recognition. The fellowship for the previous year went to Kalamandalam Saraswathi. She is a renowned mohiniyattam danseuse and wife of writer M.T. Vasudevan Nair. The fellowship comes with Rs 35,000, memento and a citation. Renowned percussionist Mattanur Sankarankutty Marar won the Kalarathnam Award with a cash award of Rs 10,000.
The MKK Nair award went to Carnatic vocalist Sreevalsan J. Menon and the Mukundaraja Smrithi Award to critic Balachandran Vadakkedathu. The other winners are Kalamandalam Ramakri-shnan (Kathakali vesham), Thiruvalla Gopikuttan Nair (Kathakali Music), Kalamandalam Radhakrishnan Marar (Chenda), Kalamandalam Harinarayanan Guruvayur (Madalam), Muthupilakkadu Chandrasekar Pillai (chutti), Kalamandalam Parameswaramarar (Thimila), Kalamandalam Rajalakshmi (dance), Vayalar Krishnankutty (Thullal), Kalamandalam Krishnakumar (Koodiyat-tam), Dr T.S. Madhavankutty (for his books on Kathakali ‘Kali Kadakkapuram’), Vinod Mankara (documentary), Kalamandalam Vaishak P.V. (promising young artist).
The other awards were won by Kalamandalam Radhakrishnan, Kalamandalam Mohanakrishnan, Mohiniyattam danseuse Sudha Peethambaran and Kalamandalam Sudheesh. The awards will be handed over on the occasion of the Kalamandalam Anniversary on November 9 at the Koothambalam of the varsity by Cultural Minister A.K. Balan.
