Two Maoists killed in encounter at Mulugu in Telangana
The identity of the slain Naxals is yet to be revealed
WARANGAL: Two Maoists were reported killed in an encounter with the police in Mangapet mandal of Mulugu district on Sunday.
Police said a special party and Greyhounds forces who were combing the area came across the Maoists at the Musalammagutta forest area. In the shootout that ensued, the two Maoists were killed.
Though the police are yet to reveal the identity of the slain naxals, they are suspected to be from the team who had killed TRS leader Bheemeswar Rao in Venkatapuram mandal on October 10.
Confirming that the encounter had taken place, Mulugu superintendent of police Sangramsingh G. Patil said the police had received credible information that the Maoists had sent many action teams and forces to areas along the Chhattisgarh state border.
They were tasked with creating havoc in Telangana state and were plotting to attack government property, he said. The combing operation was being carried out by the Mulugu district special forces and Greyhounds in the Eturunagaram and Mangapeta forest areas of the district.
During their operations, the forces came across the Maoists at the Musalammagutta forest under the Mangapet police station. Police forces were continuing to carry out combing operations to prevent the Maoists from committing any atrocities in the Agency areas of the district, Singh said.
Sources said, a self-loadiing rifle (SLR) and two DBBL (double barrel breach loading) shotguns were recovered from the area. The bodies have been recovered from the forest and would be shifted to the Eturnagaram primary health centre.
Since the assassination of the TRS leader, the police have been conducting combing every day and tracking down suspects. Inquiries are being made about them in all the suspected areas. Police have stepped up patrols, taking the case as a matter of prestige.
