KOCHI: Even as the construction sector has been bearing the brunt of currency ban, the big ticket Kochi Metro project is the unaffected, says, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation authorities. “As the civil works from Aluva to Palarivattom are almost complete, the electrical and technical works are being carried out in this stretch. The works are done by salaried technical persons and not daily labourers,” said DMRC sources.

Track laying along the stretch is being done by the staff of IRCON. “Currency ban has not created any cash crunch for the Metro works,” the sources added. Civil works beyond Maharajas to Vyttila also are not affected as the payments to all workers are disbursed through bank accounts. “There are no cash dealings and the labourers are given monthly payment through banks. Hence, demonetisation has not affected Metro works,” said sources at L&T.
