Two daily wage workers died after inhaling toxic fumes while cleaning a manhole at a pharma unit at Sanathnagar on Monday.
Hyderabad: Two daily wage workers died after inhaling toxic fumes while cleaning a manhole at a pharma unit at Sanathnagar on Monday. The condition of one other worker is said to be critical, police said.
The incident happened at Bio Chemical Synthetic Private Limited, where the fire brigade rushed teams and pulled out the victims from the manhole. The drug manufacturing firm was charged with negligence in engaging the workers without the necessary protective gear to clean the manhole at the unit.
In the latest incident, workers were engaged to clear the blockage in a sewage line in Bio Chemical Synthetics at Jinkalwada in Balanagar Industrial area. On Monday, when the management noticed a block again, two workers were told to enter the manhole and clear the block and another worker Narsimhulu told to assist them.
After sometime, when there was no response from both the workers who entered manhole, Narsimhulu also entered into it who then fell unconcious. Other workers who noticed this alerted the management. The three were rushed to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared two of them dead. Narsimhulu was in a critical condition.
