KANNUR: Kannur was rocked by violence on Thursday in the wake of the murder of a BJP worker at Andallur, near Dharmadom, on Wednesday night.   A gang attacked Santhosh in his house when his wife Baby and children Sarang and Vismaya were  at Baby’s house, three km away. The badly injured Santhosh phoned his relatives and neighbours who rushed to the place and took him to the Indira Gandhi Cooperative Hospital, Thalassery.

Santhosh was declared brought dead and his body was taken to Pariyaram Medical College for post-mortem.  The BJP took the body through Kannur town in a procession on Thursday, but the police stopped it  to avoid further violence. The leaders then started a sit-in near the Kalolsavam venue. As the talks with district police chief K.P. Philip also failed, collector Mir Mohammed Ali intervened to let three vehicles of the leaders as well as the ambulance to pass through the town.

The body was placed at Chirakkuni for paying the last respects  and later was cremated on the premises of his house at 6.30 p.m.  The bomb  and dog squads collected  evidence from the place. The collector called an all-party meeting at 8 p.m. Some bikes were burnt at Andallur  and more police forces were deployed
in the area.
