Kozhikode gets first batch of Customs Cadet Corps

Cadets belong to Class VIII and IX.

KOZHIKODE: The passing out parade of the first batch of Customs Cadet Corps (CCC) of the district was held on Sunday at the Government Higher Secondary School, Karaparamba. Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan received the salute from 25 cadets while excise and labour minister T.P. Ramakrishnan distributed certificates. The cadets formed by the Cochin Customs and Customs Preventive Commissionerate is the fifth CCC unit in the state. The first, formed in the state capital, has 27 cadets.

“After the student’s police cadets and the excise cadets, we have the customs cadets, which is a proud moment for the entire state,” the Speaker said. More than helping the customs officials in the investigation, their mission is to make students self-disciplined. The got training from top customs officials in self-defence, personality development and English communication. “We have already received enquiries from other states to replicate the project,” the minister said.

More students from the SC and ST category got selected so that they could fight their issues more effectively, said C.J. Thomas, a superintendent at the Central Board of Excise and Customs, Kozhikode. Though the cadets are Class VIII and IX students, gradually the project will be extended to other classes and schools in the district, he said.
