Hyderabad: Ranga Reddy DEO K. Satyanarayana Reddy on Sunday asked Saritha Vidya Niketan School, Hayatnagar, — which had locked 19 students in a classroom ahead of the SSC exam on Saturday for not paying the tuition fee — for an explanation.

The school principal alleged that a parent, who had not paid the fee last year too, was to blame. The school did not inconvenience the children, Mr Reddy said.

“The staff put the blame on the parent, who a few weeks earlier had tried to enter into an argument with school officials over fees. The response from the school staff was that the parent made the students sit in one room and then called the media to make it an issue,” the DEO said.

Mr Reddy asked the school why it did not contact parents for pending fees instead of asking the children. The DEO said he had informed the Ranga Reddy collector about his visit and the explanation given by the school administration.
