Parties vow to peace deal in Tanur

Mass procession planned to restore normalcy in region.

MALAPPURAM: The coastal villages of Tanur are  set to march to peace after a spell of violence and atrocities. An all-party meeting  presided over by  Minister for Local Self-Government, Dr. K.T. Jaleel, here on Sunday decided to take out a peace rally soon by all political parties and organisations to restore normalcy in the region. The parties decided to hand over miscreants to the police. The current police cases will be resolved within a month through mediation and discussions. They will also join hands to bring back  the locals  who had left the area.

Cultural and arts programmes will  be organised with the help of local organisations and clubs. These were among 11 major  decisions taken at the  meeting where the minister  asked the parties not to support miscreants. The discussions on the compensation package for the victims were postponed  due to the election code of conduct.  It will be decided  after the poll, the minister said. Mr E.T Muhammed Basheer,  MP, Mr  V. Abdurahman MLA, Tirur RDO T.V. Subhash and  DySP A.J. Babu,  besides the representatives of  political parties, were present at the meeting.
