More fever wards at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital

KOZHIKODE: In the wake of the increase in the number of dengue fever cases in the District, the Heath Department has initiated the starting of a rapid action wing at the earliest to handle the situation. The review meeting conducted at the Government Medical College Hospital on Monday expressed the apprehension that the fever situation in the District was getting out of hand. Medical Director RK Saritha talking to MCH doctors and representatives of  the District Medical Department said that the official figures provided by the Health Department’s Integrated Disease Surveillance Project showed that more than 200 suspected cases of Dengue were reported in the District so far, of which more than 100 of them were confirmed and eight cases ended with the patients dying.

The meeting also decided to start fever wards at the MCH and also other Government hospitals in the District and deploy more doctors and staff so that the wards could function smoothly. “The department has already issued dengue management protocols and doctors have been sufficiently trained in order to handle the situation. The rapid response team will keep a track on the increasing number of fever cases and intervene in order to curb it by introducing various activities. The meeting called for continuous support of residents’ associations, educationalal institutions and other government agencies to implement dengue prevention activities. In addition to this, the District Collector has asked officials to be vigilant and expedite fever prevention activities in the wake of the rise in fever cases.
