Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and revenue department carried out a demolition at Mir Alam Tank on Wednesday.

GHMC and revenue department demolished 40 structures, including permanent, semi-permanent, temporary in Mir Alam Tank area with the help of JCB machines. These structures were raised at the full-tank level area of the lake.

Occupiers of the structures said the officials of GHMC and revenue arrived in the early hours with a contingent of police and started demolishing without serving any notice.

They were neither allowed to show their documents nor to remove their belongings, they said. “Then even snatched our cell phones. And no leader arrived to rescue us,” they complained.

Jafar Khan of Shah Ali Banda said he had two parcels of land and had constructed boundaries. “We purchased the land here to do our business,” he said and added that a few days ago, some occupiers received a notice in which the officials mentioned survey number 293 belonged to the government.

“Officials clarified that the occupiers of Survey No. 295 (Jafar Khan’s land) need not worry, but all of a sudden, they arrived here and started demolition without providing an opportunity to show our documents and remove our belongings.”

He alleged that due to the demolition, material worth of crores of rupees was damaged.
