Hyderabad: GHMC on Tuesday asked cable operators in the city to rearrange their wires, which criss-cross electric poles or pay for providing underground duct.

“There are overhanging cables between poles, giving an ugly look to the city. GHMC wants to get rid of it. As an alternative, initially we planned an underground duct. But it would require digging up roads, which is not possible.

So we asked ser-vice providers to opt for an overhead single cable system. Each of this cable will have 96 cores, which means through one wire 96 connection can be provided,” said Hyderabad Mayor B. Rammohan, adding that these companies use electric poles without taking permission from TS Transco.

GHMC is likely to blacklist the private cable firms based how they react to this direction. There are over 10 city cable networks and 40 telecom firms.
